Dnd 5e arcane trickster shadow blade12/30/2023 ![]() ![]() Average damage is only 36 but if your booming blade actually pops then that's an additional 9 average damage. This will be 3D8+DEX + 1D8 booming blade (+2D8 if they move) + 4D6 sneak attack. At T2 that's pretty respectable.Īrcane trickster 7/Bladesinger 3: You'll lean more on your blade cantrips, And you'll only be able to cast 2nd level spells but you'll have an upcasted shadowblade. ![]() By casting 3rd level shadowblade your base without blade cantrips is 3D8+DEX * 2 +2D6 sneak attack once per turn for 42 average damage assuming DEX is +4. Here are the splits that are probably most beneficial to the arcane trickster/bladesinger.Īrcane Trickster 3/Bladesinger 7: You have 2 attacks, 4th level spells and 2 sneak attack dice. At higher levels it's just as good, if not better sometimes, to forego the blade cantrip and use an upcasted shadowblade with 2 attacks per turn. Haste, shadowblade, greater invisibility are amazing spells for this class.Īs an arcane trickster/bladesinger casting shadowblade then booming blade or green flame blade will be your bread and butter for your attacks. The loss of sneak attack dice isn't nearly as bad as it would be with another rogue class because with spellcasting you can up your damage output in seconds. This is one of my favorite combinations in the game and can go toe to toe with the best of them. Pick a point, maybe its level 8, maybe level 11 - what stuff do you want to have when you and everyone else is level 11? What stuff can you live without? You can get it later, and still work towards AT8/BS12 if you want, or some other mix. You miss out on uncanny dodge and expertise - you'll have to decide which you want more, spells sooner and spells you wouldn't normally have, or roguey-stuff. You could go 3 levels into AT for magehand legerdemain and cunning action and a caster level, 7 into BS for 4th level spells. Does that fit what you want to do with the character? It costs you 4 sneak attack dice, but gains you an extra attack (which is one more chance to apply sneak damage), and likely higher level spells faster. If you have vastly more spells than you have free school slots, I'd consider 7 levels of BS, which get you to 4th level spells and makes your selection of spells as free as it would be for a wizard (though you are still constrained to schools for the new spells known from AT levels). I'd make a list of spells you want, keeping the AT school restrictions in mind. 6th level extra attack isn't a bad feature for a rogue. Maybe a third if you feel like casting should be a bigger focus.Īlso note that casting is not my focus, I like to have spells for utility and buffing rather than use save or sucks or blasts but having a single nasty debuff for magical ambush is not a bad idea.Depends entirely on how many spells you feel like casting. What do you think? How many levels of bladesinger should I take? At the moment I can fully rebuild my PC who is at level 6 but our next game will put her back at level 3.Īlso note that casting is not my focus, I like to have spells for utility and buffing rather than use save or sucks or blasts but having a single nasty debuff for magical ambush is not a bad idea.Īlso note that casting is not my focus, I like to have spells for utility and buffing rather than use save or sucks or blasts but having a single nasty debuff for magical ambush is not a bad idea.Based on what you described, if you were going to put any into it, I'd only go for 2 levels. My group just finished a one shot and I'm more than positive about playing my AT again in our next one shot however one of my friends pointed me that due to my playstyle taking some levels of Bladesinger may be a good idea, getting mage armor, shield and find familiar from the wizard is okay but bladesong is hella good, more speed and better concentratiom saves but I'm still not sure, it'll delay my sneak attack progression and other rogue features and grant me less HP per level. So I had a lot of fun with my current Character, an Eladrin (Dmg) Arcane trickster, putting Everything into a single attack is a simple but effective tactic IMO, shadow blade + Booming Blade + my owl familiar always using the help action + bonus action disengage = Profit! ![]()
